Routine Care

What happens during a dental check-up?

At each check-up, your dentist will:

  • Examine your teeth, gums and mouth
  • Ask about your general health and any problems you've had with your teeth, mouth or gums since your last visit
  • Ask about and give you advice on your diet, smoking and alcohol use and teeth-cleaning habits
  • Discuss with you a date for your next visit

Whitening

How does teeth whitening work?

After your dentist has carried out an examination, the first thing we do is create a mould of your teeth, so that a well-made custom tray fits comfortably in your mouth. A harmless bleaching agent is added by you to the custom tray to whiten your teeth. By wearing this custom tray a few hours a day or overnight for up to three weeks, you can brighten your teeth and smile with confidence.

Hygienist

When should I see a hygienist?

A hygienist’s main work is to prevent and treat gum disease. Perhaps the most important part of their job is to show you the best ways to keep your teeth free of plaque. Plaque is a sticky, whitish deposit that forms on your teeth when bacteria mixes with food and saliva. The bacteria in plaque produce chemicals that cause gum disease. In turn, this can lead to bleeding gums, gum shrinkage and ultimately tooth loss.

Dental Airflow

What is Airflow?

Air Flow ® uses a fine spray of warmed water &  powder to gently deep clean the tooth surface above and below the gum line. This minimally invasive technology is safe to use on all oral surfaces & difficult to reach places: enamel, dentine, soft tissues, restorations, orthodontic appliances & implants.

Tooth Loss and Periodontal Disease

What is Periodontal Disease

Periodontitis, also called gum disease, is a serious gum infection that damages the soft tissue and, without treatment, can destroy the bone that supports your teeth.

Periodontitis can cause teeth to loosen or lead to tooth loss.

Periodontitis is common but largely preventable. It's usually the result of poor oral hygiene.

Cfast Braces

What are Cfast™ braces?

Cfast is a simple cosmetic system which uses orthodontic appliances specially designed to straighten the front teeth of adults to provide a significant improvement in the appearance of their smile in a time frame of around 6 months (treatment should take no longer than 9 months but the vast majority are complete in a 4-6 month period).

Your dentist will be able to give you an idea of how long treatment will take in your case when you attend for your initial consultation.

Crowns

Why would I need a crown?

Crowns can help if:

  • Your tooth is susceptible to decay or it already has large fillings in it.
  • Your tooth is discoloured and you're unhappy with its appearance
  • Your tooth has been root filled.
  • Your tooth is misshapen and it affects the way you bite

Veneers

What is a veneer

Dental veneers are thin, custom-made shells that dentists can place on the front of the teeth to improve their appearance. Veneers can hide stained, chipped, and uneven teeth.

For some people, having damaged or discolored teeth can affect their confidence or self-esteem. Dental veneers can help improve the appearance of the teeth.

Inlays and Onlays

What are Inlays and Onlays

An inlay restores the natural shape, function and appearance of your tooth. It is placed into the tooth cavity, prepared by your dentist following decay, or the removal of an old filling.

An onlay is similar to an inlay except it covers the biting surface of the tooth.

Bridges & Dentures

Dental Bridge

Denture

Why choose a bridge or a denture?

Dental Bridges & Dentures

  • When missing teeth aren’t replaced, greater strain is placed on neighbouring teeth

  • Your 'bite' could be affected by missing teeth, making eating or speaking more difficult

  • Teeth either side of a gap sometimes lean in to each other which can badly affect the appearance of your smile or bite

Root Canal Treatment

What exactly is a root canal?

Also known as endodontic treatment, this is a common dental procedure used to treat infection of the root canal system at the centre of the tooth. The infection is caused by bacteria that already live in the mouth and are able to penetrate the tooth because of decay, leaky fillings or damage from trauma, such as a fall.

Dental Implants

What are dental implants?

A dental implant is an artificial root made of titanium that is placed carefully and accurately in to your natural bone, on to which an artificial tooth, often made from porcelain is then fixed. The dental implant itself can be used to hold a single tooth or multiple teeth depending on your needs.

They look and feel like a natural tooth, and unlike some of the alternatives that may need replacing after 10 – 15 years, a dental implant if properly looked after and maintained can last for a lot longer.

About dental implants

Missing teeth can not only make you feel self-conscious but can affect the way in which you eat and speak. Whilst other treatments such as bridges or dentures can be a solution, a dental implant can be the best clinical option to replace missing teeth.
